Your final administrative and academic registration will take place after your arrival. At that time, you will receive your student ID card and login credentials (campus Wi-Fi access, online student portal, etc.).
Be sure to bring all the required documents needed to complete your registration:
- Valid passport or ID card (copy and original).
- Registration form (provided by the host faculty).
- Certificate of enrollment from your home university.
- If you are doing an internship, you must also provide a certificate of liability insurance obtained from an insurance company or your bank in France.
Please note that:
Tuition fees must be paid directly to your home university. You will not receive a diploma at the end of your stay, but your transcript, indicating the number of ECTS credits earned, will be sent to your home university.
Faculty of Science Welcome Meeting
You are required to register for one of the Welcome Meetings organized by the Faculty of Sciences (DLST, PhITEM, IM2AG, Chemistry/Bio).
During this meeting, you will receive information about how UGA operates, the CROUS cafeterias and the IZLY card, the ADE online schedule, and university life at UGA in general, as well as a campus tour.
French Courses (FLE)
We are offering 20 hours of French classes at the CUEF (University Center for French Studies). This course is free the first time you take it and will earn you 3 credits (ECTS). For students wishing to take the French language course (FLE*), please add the title and code below:
Course title: “FLE - RI”
Code: “UCW0M2019”
You can choose to take:
- The intensive module if you are arriving for the fall semester; the 20 hours of class will be condensed into one week at the end of August before your classes begin.
- The extensive module, which will be held throughout the semester; the 20 hours of class will be spread out in blocks of 2 hours per week from mid-October to mid-December.
If you are taking the intensive course, you may register for the extensive course, but you must register directly with the CUEF for a fee of €260, and only one FLE course will appear on your transcript, meaning you will receive ECTS credits only once.
If you are spending a year on exchange at UGA and wish to take the FLE course in both semesters, you may also re-enroll with the CUEF. You will need to pay the €260 fee; however, if your coordinators agree, you may receive the credits again in the second semester. You must clearly indicate this on your Learning Agreement.
You can choose Elective Cross-Disciplinary Courses (ETC). ETCs are non-specialized courses that cover all disciplines at UGA, exposing students to fields other than their own. They allow you to earn 3 ECTS credits.
There are several types of ETCs: Language ETCs, offered by the Language Department (except for French); Sports ETCs, offered by SUAPS; and Interdisciplinary ETCs, offered by the Cross-Disciplinary Education Department.
Registration dates for language and interdisciplinary ETCs:
Fall semester (September – December): 09/09 – 09/30
Spring semester (January – June): 01/07 – 01/21
ETC Sport registration dates:
Fall semester (September – December): 09/09 – 09/17
Spring semester (January – June): 01/07 – 01/15
Finalizing Course Selections
After you arrive, you have about 4 weeks to make changes to your course selection in your Learning Agreement.
Deadlines:
Fall semester (September–January): September 30
Spring semester (January–June): January 31
The IntEGre student association supports international students and promotes intercultural exchange across the entire Grenoble campus: city and campus tours, student meetups, language exchange partners, and more.
A must for all international students! The association, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, organizes numerous events, parties, and cultural tours throughout the year, fostering connections between French and international students.
As an exchange student, you must obtain approval from the academic coordinators at your home university and at UGA. If both coordinators give their approval, you must have a authorization to extend your exchange program.
Housing If you have Crous housing managed by the ISSO housing office, ask studenthousing@univ-grenoble-alpes.fr for authorization to extend your lease with the Crous:
- To continue your studies in the second semester, by mid-November at the latest. This is because the Crous needs to plan to free up housing to accommodate new arrivals in January and February. If your request arrives too late, it will count as one less available housing unit and will be rejected. - After February: at least one and a half months before the scheduled end of your lease.
Note: Crous housing extensions are granted only for the current academic year. The authorization for an exchange program extension, the updated study contract, or the signed internship agreement must be submitted at the time of application.
If you are renting in the private sector, please contact your landlord directly to negotiate an extension of your lease.
Residence Permit Be sure to check whether you need to apply for an extension of your residence permit. The ISSO International Student Services team is available to assist you with any administrative procedures related to your right of residence. Learn more
