[2024] Morris columns made of recycled materials for a communicative and responsible campus!

Workshop Sustainable development, Training, Educational innovation
In September, the Saint-Martin-d'Hères campus was transformed into an eco-friendly construction site! For ten days, 36 master's students in architecture and civil engineering fromUniversité Grenoble Alpes ENSAG - UGA took on a unique challenge: to design and build advertising columns entirely from recycled materials. This innovative project, led by teachers from UFR PhITEM and ENSAG - UGA, demonstrates their commitment to training the future builders of a more environmentally friendly world.
How can we build without depleting the planet's resources? That is the question these students sought to answer. Armed with their creativity and ingenuity, they collected, sorted, and assembled a variety of materials: adobe, wood from a demolition site, pallets for the carpentry work on the future Condillac residences of the Crous, used car and truck tires, skis, and fire hoses!

The result lives up to their ambitions: six original and colorful advertising columns have been created. They now adorn six strategic locations on campus, providing free display space.

In addition to the columns, the students wanted to create a covered relaxation area in front of Building A of the PhITEM faculty, thereby creating a welcoming space for students and staff.

An educational project for a sustainable future

This educational project is not just a technical achievement. It is also a vehicle for transmitting values. The students learned to work as a team, to be resourceful, and to adopt an eco-responsible approach. By taking ownership of this project, they demonstrated that sustainable construction is not necessarily a constraint, but an opportunity to create more pleasant and environmentally friendly living spaces.

That is why, since the start of the 2024 school year, this educational activity has been included in thePArIn option - For an integrated architecture-engineering approach as part of the Master's degree in Architecture at ENSAG – UGA.

Every year, thanks to this innovative educational project,Université Grenoble Alpes future architects and engineers who will build the world of tomorrow.
