Physics professions

The science of experimentation and modeling par excellence, often relying on the development of cutting-edge instrumentation in its quest to unlock the secrets of nature from the infinitely small to the infinitely large, physics is at the heart of most of the technological innovations that surround us (lasers, LEDs for lighting or flat screens, GPS, magnetic memory, microsensors, nanodevices, etc.) and is closely linked to many societal issues (energy, environment, health, etc.).

The brochure "Careers in Physics: A World to Discover," produced by the Action Group for Physics (G2P) for the 2005 World Year of Physics (document available for download from the box), illustrates the diversity of career paths and fields of activity available to physics graduates, which go far beyond the teaching and research professions traditionally associated with the discipline.

The convergence of physics, mechanics, and earth sciences within the PhITEM department, the proximity to life sciences and chemistry within the UGA, as well as the numerous bridges connecting the various bachelor's and master's degree programs offer everyone the ideal conditions to build a course of study that combines fundamental knowledge (essential for mastering the innovations of tomorrow) and applied knowledge (the best passport to employment).
